Carol Schram: Will the Vancouver Canucks bring back Ryan Miller, Jack Skille next season? Though the Vancouver Canucks are in a rebuilding phase, the possibility exists that players like goaltender Ryan Miller and winger Jack Skille could be back on the roster in the 2017-18 season.

Thanks Carol!

I wouldn't sign Miller unless it was a heavily discounted, 1 year, no clause contract. (with the intention of him being moved at TDL to a contender). I also think that Miller explores all options (along the west coast) before ultimately coming back to the Canucks if he doesn't generate interest from those specifics teams.

I would also let Skille walk.

I just want to say I'm upset that there is no "Trade for Eddie Lack" option in the poll.

Fair enough. I realized as I was just finishing getting ready that I forgot to include Eddie. Carolina's in much the same situation as Dallas.

With any luck, I'll cross paths with Eddie here in Europe at some point over the next few days and we can discuss!

If he doesnt want to bounce around, I'd expect there to be zero chance on both a 1 year deal and without NTC/NMC, regardless of what team offers it to him

I think it would be in his best interest to see if any of the Cali teams want him. If they all say no, I think Vancouver would be his next best option. If he was smart, he would sign a cap friendly 1 year deal and be open to the fact of being traded at TDL to a contender on the west coast. If not, well beggers can't be choosers and he should take what he can get, given his age.

I've got no issues with Ryan Miller, however, that ship has sailed, it's time to put some faith in Jacob Markstrom. At the beginning of last year he played well, had a better save percentage than Miller, get him a backup and move on from Miller.

My 2 cents...

That'd be cool!

I don't really think it's viable or the org really has much reason to bring him back other than him being popular in Van, but I like Eddie

I agree with your post, and the bolded I think is key. We see contracts that are signed where term is more important to a player, so I could see Miller getting a low cap hit if it means signing in California for a couple years.

I do think, based on Bishop's comments of his Vegas discussions, that Miller ends up there to mentor the young team they are trying to assemble.

If we don't find out what we have in Markstrom this year, we never will. Honestly, even if he totally poops the bed it's not the worst thing in the world.

Anyone like the Czeck D JB is checking out? Are there any other free agent Europeans that JB should try to sign?

Dahlin immediately accelerates our rebuild if we happen to land him. Fingers crossed?

On whether to resign Miller or not i have a few takes on the matter.

1) no & let Marky play & sign a cheap UFA for a year. Sink or Swim.
2) no & do a deal with the Stars plus a sweetener
3) no & trade Marky & do a deal with the Stars give Demko a lil more time
4) yes & trade Marky & resign Miller for a very friendly 2yr deal.

All of the above I assume Demko is 1-2yrs away from being our starter.
Personally i like option 3 or 4 best. I like Marky but idk if he can handle 60 games as a starter unless he is only keeping Demko's spot warm til he is ready. One way or another i want Marky traded when he fetches the most. Which ever the choice the stealth tank will happen & if Miller is back his leadership is a bonus IMO.

I wouldnt be against trading Markstrom, however his value is definitely not at its highest:

His new contract kicks in next season and his cap hit (as it stands now) will be the 27th highest for a goalie, despite him never playing more than 33 games in a season.

Ok say he is traded then what would u like in goal?
Either a plug or Miller to hold the fort til Demko is ready maybe?
I like option 3 & get back picks or assets twice.

I'm all for getting Skill into our lineup, Skille not so much.

Im fine with Miller/Bachman if Markstrom is gone. I am fine with taking really any goalie with a terrible contract as it wont matter much. My preference has been that they do whatever they need to for Demko/Gartieg to be the combo in Utica

I would target Howard, Halak before the Dallas goalies. I think Rollie/Cloutier could rebuild the league's faith/value in them before Lehtonen/Niemi, those two crashed and burned behind a good Dallas team and I feel their reputations are shot

Skille was our best 4th liner all year. Bring him back on another one year deal. He will probably have his best year because he knows it may be his last chance to ink one more contract. No harm in bringing back Miller if the price is right. Nothing over 3 million would be my offer. Have Demko and Bachman man the pipes in Utica. Rid this season out hoping for another top five pick nest summer and really start the rebuild.
